The Flatiron Building
The Flatiron Building is a landmark in the heart of Manhattan, located at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Broadway, right in front of the relatively open Madison Square. Police chased away lurking men, resulting in the slang term, “23 Skidoo.”

The building’s tenants were largely small businesses, but in 1959, St. Martin’s Press moved in. The Dakota

Its location and cosmopolitan feel made it a hot spot for celebrities, including Bono, Rosemary Clooney, and even renowned authors, such as Harlan Coben.
The Dakota is a co-op that excludes many people from living in it. It was designed by Henry J. Hardenberg, a noted architect. It was designated a New York City Landmark in 1969 and was later designated a National Historic Landmark in 1976. The San Remo was designed by architect Richard Roth, who took inspiration from the late Italian Renaissance. The building’s proportions and warm light brick, which is placed above a limestone substructure, received praise from architectural critic George S. Chappell. Chappell also praised the treatment of the towers, which feature Corinthian temples and 22-foot copper lanterns.
The San Remo was once occupied by forty families. A famous theater manager and his wife, Sara Shubert Davidow, were both residents. In 1892, he was evicted, but he didn’t tear them down. In 1892, he also moved out of the building, which he bought from Morris. The tenants were not evicted. It stood until 1929.
